Still Expecting

Your Baby’s Early Growth and Development
Although each baby will differ, for the first three months, your baby will continue growing at the same rate that is established during the first few weeks of his life. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provides the following guidelines as a general idea of what to expect.

  • Weight gain will be between 1 ½ to 2 pounds per month
  • Growth in length will be about 1 to 1 ½ inches per month
  • Head size will increase in diameter by about ½ inch per month
